- People often wonder what the name dupolarbear means. To put it in simple terms, I am what is considered a BEAR within the gay community. What is a bear? Generally speaking, a bear is a person who is on the larger side and has an ample supply of body hair. I love the cold, thus polarbear, and the Du is from my last name. I live in Michigan with my partner of eight years, Rodney, and my kids -- two yorkie, Jack and Lily, and three cats, Yukka, Mambo and Lobo. While some consider these pets, since the radical right won't allow us to marry and adopt children, these will do for now.
